Point de Chassiron, Phare de Chassiron.
AOK 1, KVA D, KV.Gr. Süd Oléron, Flak battery Seelöwe, Ro 517.

The most northern part of the island is called Point de Chassiron. There is a large parking place and a few meters behind the parking place, in a field, the Flak battery lies. The bunkers are hard to find, they are fully overgrown with bushes.

It is a large Flak battery, similar to battery Olmen, IJmuiden, Netherlands. There are four emplacements, two times FL243 and two times FL249. Two emplacements are filled with water and therefore inaccessible. The emplacements are in a good condition, some armoured parts and camouflage colours are still present. Notice the entrance defence which is covering the outside of the bunker, is just beautiful.
The fire-directions came from a FL244 fire-control bunker. A regular FL244 has a room for a rangefinder underneath a steel turret at the front of the bunker. This one hasn't, probably never had. The front is open and not suitable for such a turret. The entrance of the bunker at the front is open and covered by a small shrapnel wall, so there never could have been room for the turret.
The battery is covered at both sides with a smaller emplacement from the type FL242. The ammunition bunker of the battery is a FL246, but is inaccessible.

Types:
1x FL244 Fire control post for heavy AA battery.
2x FL243a Heavy AA emplacement without crew shelter.
2x FL249 Heavy AA emplacement.
2x FL242 Unit-emplacement for medium and heavy AA gun.
2x FL246 Ammunition depot.
1x Water bunker.

Point de Chassiron.
AOK 1, KVA D, KV.Gr. Süd Oléron, Rabe, Ro 518.

The bunkers are located around the lighthouse at Point de Chassiron and is a former Kriegsmarine Station.

There are four personnel bunkers of the 501 type. They are all covered and inaccessible. The other bunker at this location is a V206 bunker for radio-guidance. The bunker has been closed recently. Next to this bunker is an old building that is probably used by the Germans. It has some concrete parts at his side. On a concrete plate next to the path we found an inscription, "H.K. 22.3.44".

Types:
3x 501 Group bunker.
1x V206 Radar bunker.
1x Socle for Würzburg Riese radar.
1x Tobruk58c.
1x Old German building.
Point de Chassiron.
AOK 1, KVA D, KV.Gr. Süd Oléron, Battery Schwalbe, Ro 531.

Park the car at the big parking place at Point de Chassiron and then walk to the other side of the street. There are lots of small houses and private properties. Follow some small paths along the houses and across the fields. The bunkers are very hard to find and the vegetation doesn't make it easier.

The observation bunker, a 627 is open, but in a poor condition and has lost its armoured plates. In front of the 627 there is a closed tunnel entrance. We have entered the tunnels trough another entrance near the Vf2a personnel bunker. The tunnels lead to the 627, the Vf2a and to the Vf7a ammunition bunker. There are also some parts of the tunnels that are collapsed or closed with bricks. The tunnels end at the beach, were you can see some remains that have fallen of the cliffs.
In the middle of the battery is a very nice emplacement for a 10,5cm gun. There should be four emplacements, but we have found only one of them.
At the south side of the battery, next to the road is a 502, but it was overgrown and inaccessible. Near the 502 is a Tobruk. On the edge of the cliff is an unidentified bunker that is fully covered.

Types:
1x 627 Artillery observation post with embrasure and roof canopy.
1x 502 Twin group bunker.
2x 501 Group bunker.
1x Vf7a Ammunition bunker.
1x Vf2a Group shelter.
2x Tobruk58c.
1x Tunnels.
1x Gun emplacement for 10,5cm K331(f).
